Big Boy Room!

Since we will have a newborn very soon, it was time for Miller to move from his crib to a big boy bed. And with a big boy bed should come a whole new big boy room, right? Any reason to decorate and make things. :) Since we live in an apartment and can't paint the walls, I wanted to use a lot of color in the room. I wanted it to be bright, cheery, and a fun place for him to play. I had a lot of fun looking on Pinterest for ideas...here is my inspiration board {http://pinterest.com/alenahoneycutt/big-boy-room/}. I LOVE how it turned out!

View from the door:

The bed was Eli's when he was little and I didn't get a 'before' picture, but it was a dark wood color. I painted it Valspar's Firmament (from Lowe's) and I absolutely love the color. It was exactly what I was wanting.
The quilt and striped pillow are from Kohl's. I love the green with the color of the bed. It's gray on the other side so I can switch it up if I want to.  The chevron pillow I made using fabric from Hobby Lobby. I just hot-glued it around another pillow.
{I don't sew unless I have to}.

For the curtains, I was really wanting navy/white big horizontal stripes, but I couldn't find them anywhere. Any time I saw them online, they were diy. Like I said...I only sew if I have to, and I decided I didn't have to for these. I bought some cheap ($2.99/yd + 40% off) navy and white fabric at Hobby Lobby and had them cut 1/2 yard strips. Then I used some iron on bonding stuff to piece them together. Putting them together was easy. The hard part that made me say I will never make curtains again, was adding the blackout to the back! So frustrating. They are far from perfect and they may fall apart but they are done and I really like them. :) The tie-backs are just scrap fabric and I used a cup hook in the wall and cut a slit in the ends of the strip of fabric to hang it from. Easy and cute.

The big metal "M" is from 405 Imports in Norman, OK and the photos/art (Miller's first ever finger painting)  I hung using a binder clip and a push pin...no frames needed.

The alphabet wall cards are one of my favorite things in the room. I had pinned them on Pinterest and my thoughtful mama surprised me with them!! They are big so they take up a whole wall. I hung them using jute and mini clothespins from Michael's.
Miller is modeling them for you. Any excuse to stand on the bed and not get in trouble. :)

The dresser was also Eli's when he was little and it was all that dark wood color that is on top. I painted it a light gray color....Valspar Sleek Gray, but left the top original. The two jute knobs on the top drawer are from Hobby Lobby and the others are the original, but I spray painted them Oil Rubbed Bronze. Another favorite things are the big photos. This one is 24x20! I printed it and then mounted it onto a piece of white foam board from Hobby Lobby using spray adhesive. Then I hung it on the wall using 3M velcro strips.

Misc. frames and pictures. The "You Make Everything Better" was a free download from Paper Coterie on Mother's Day.

The 'Miller' blocks are some his Gamma made him for his nursery. I still love them. :)

Old fan I've had in a closet for years, old Dr. Seuss books from a garage sale and 'M' block from an antique store in Texas.

Orange honeycomb lamp with burlap shade is from Hobby Lobby.

Stick frame from a garage sale:

The chalkboard was going to be thrown away at the church, so I claimed it. :) The brother quote is on a canvas that I painted with navy acrylic paint, then I used some foam stamps I had with white paint. The empty space next to it is waiting for a picture of Miller and his brother...when he gets here. :)

And...his room was this clean for about 10 minutes.
This is more like it. :)

Now....to get started on the nursery!!!
